CYPIB Day of Best Practice - 31st October 2005

3 members of WAY were involved in a "mystery tour" of Wiltshire with the CYPIB with the idea of showing them examples of good consultation work with young people.

The CYPIB is a group of key decision makers in Wiltshire who have been given the role of shaping the facilities provided for young people in the future. It is therefore important to encourage them to listen and consult with as many young people as possible. The day involved a panel of six young people travelling in four MPVs with members of the CYPIB, and as well as showing them examples of good youth work, e.g. North Wilts Youth Council and db8 Magazine, they were given quizzes to do to test how "clued up" they were about issues affecting teenagers. The day was a real success and members of the Board were given a chance to look at good consultation work. As a result of this day, WAY has been given 2 places on the board with full voting rights, together with the proviso that they can delay a decision if the representatives feel more consultation with young people is necessary. This is the biggest political achievement of WAY to date.
