Education

The educational subgroup of WAY has the job of tackling the educational issues we’d established as priorities for the young people of Wilshire. In the ‘Agenda for Action’ we outlined the key issues; the top priority being the quality of sexual education that was within schools, which was a difficult subject to tackle, with sex being a taboo that the government wouldn’t touch with a bargepole. However, in conjunction with Graham Payton, we worked on a document called ‘The Charter for Good Sex and Relationships Education’. We were consulted and involved at all stages of its development and were present at its launch. We’ve also had representatives present at many pivotal meetings concerning matters of education, and on top of this many members of the education subgroup hold positions upon various panels including the Teenage Pregnancy Board and the Libraries and Education Advisory Panel. We hope to achieve much more in the upcoming year, in particular tackling the bullying epidemic that is present and relevant to the lives of many young people in Wiltshire.
